New Project.

Having just received my copy of Elefantz Magazine April/May issue I couldn't wait to do some stitching.

I loved the idea of the TWEET Cupboard and went straight to the stash looking for some suitable fabric to  make this wonderful project.

I love pdf as I can instantly download and begin preparing for stitching. I am off to Mareeba next week so wanted to get some extra stitching ready.

Spending time up at the hospital today with my sick 90 year old M-I-L  saw how easily this was completed when I grabbed it for something to pass the time. Guess I will have to do some more tracing!

If you would love to own a copy of this wonderful magazine you can get it here for the obscenely low price of $6.00!
Go on over to Jenny's blog and check out the other fabulous projects.

Friday Night Stitching

I joined with everyone to do a little stitching on Friday night. Thanks Wendy for hosting this lovely night again.

I worked on my newest project using scraps from the scrap bin.

I found lots of 1-1/2 inch strips belonging to a fabric range and decided to use them in a quilt-as-you-go place mat for the coffee table. For the backing I used a piece of pre-quilted calico. The finished size turned out to be about 14 x 20 inches.

I think the longest part to complete was the quilting as I did each side of the joins.
I also used some of the remaining strips to make the binding.

Went to bed very happy indeed. Pop on over to Wendy's blog and see what everyone else made.

Hope everyone has a safe and happy Easter.

Cyclone Ita Stitching

Saturday was wet and windy so I decided I needed to stay indoors and finish off a few projects.  Got out the Rosedaisy alphabet "B" to put it on something for DD for her birthday. This turned out to be another of those  zippered pouches.
Very easy to make and this time I made the pattern about 2 inches larger all round.

So while DD and her dad were out doing jobs I finished it off for her and because I loved it so much I just had to give it to her when she came home! LOL!

Sunday was a different story with Cyclone Ita deciding she had had enough of Port Douglas and Cairns and started to track down the coast and see what we were up to in Townsville!

Like we don't usually have enough palm fronds to pick up! I think she must have shook every last dry one down. The mulcher will be busy this weekend! Most of the damage was to bottle-brush trees that had suffered twisting injuries during Cyclone Yasi and Ita just completed the job.

But while all this was happening, and hoping the power would remain on I finished off my kitten in the garden applique. This I decided to make into a cushion.

All in all it was not a bad  weekend (for Townsville) although I will be moaning about the garden when it drys out and I have to cart branches.
Our thoughts go out to the folks up north where Ita came in with a vengeance and hope they can get their lives back together soon.

Hope you all had a safe and happy weekend.

A little Something on the Side.

Here is a little set I made a while ago. Got the idea from Jenny of Elefantz when I saw a lovely bedside table mat  she had made featured in a craft magazine.
I immediately thought it was such a great idea that I wanted a set for myself. I had this fabric in my stash and love that fact that it doesn't show the dust! LOL!

  One for each of us.

And with lots of fabric left over, who could resist a couple of baskets for all the items that collect on the bed-side table!

A bow for hubby

 A flower for me!

Then to top it off, how about a lovely matching cover for my Bible.

Do you think I went a little over-board with this lot?

Not Apples!

I was supposed to make some fabric apples from this lovely range by Bonnie & Camille.

and then did something completely different!

Cutting out some strips of different sizes.

Stitching together as in Quilt as you go style.

Adding some bias binding.

Putting in a zip and ending up with this!

Funny how you buy fabric to make one thing and end up making another! By the way, there is still plenty to make another handy pouch and a few apples as well!

Now to find out where I stashed those little charms to hang on zips! What did you do on the weekend?

Friday Night with Friends.

Last night with coffee and the usual serve of Tim Tams,  I continued on my stitching of (what feels like) a million roses on my Beauty Quilt by Jennifer of Elefantz.

I only have myself to blame for adding many more roses than the design originally had.

If appears I became a little too interested in watching Better Homes and Gardens than stitching as there are an awful lot of leaves on this piece! I think it has the most out of all the blocks done so far LOL!

Go on over to Cheryll's blog and see what everyone else has been up to.
Thanks again to Cheryll for hosting.

Work in Progress.

I have been quietly stitching away at my Jenny of Elefantz Beauty Quilt and all my friends know me well enough to know I sometimes can't stop at the pattern and have to fiddle and play around a little with the design.

Now this one was hard to alter as it was so beautiful, but I just wanted to add a little more and I didn't have enough fabric for the alternate blocks and the border!
Let me say it was hard to get the extra bits right and as I made up the extra blocks separately, some of the applique pieces don't match up perfectly but I love it anyway. Did enough sewing and unpicking to last me a while, so not doing any more on this one!

Still more work to go but it's easy to pick up and stitch anywhere.

Pop over to Cheryll's for Friday Night with Friends. I probably do a little more on this one.

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.

Around the Garden

The weather has been kind to us with plenty of rain just when we thought the wet season had all but passed us by!
Just some of the Orchids and Tillandsias flowering in our garden at the moment.

Everything in the garden responds from this blessing in the loveliest of ways.
